Step 10

Recognizing When You Are Starting to Fall Behind

Most students do not suddenly become overwhelmed overnight.

Usually the signs appear much earlier:

  • avoiding assignments

  • confusion building up

  • missing small deadlines

  • feeling rushed constantly

  • stopping yourself from checking grades because you already feel stressed

The earlier you notice a problem, the easier it is to change direction.

Core Idea

Problems are easier to manage before they pile up.

Your One Action

Start your Early Warning Signs List.

Choose one class. Then honestly write:

  • Caught up

  • Slightly behind

  • Very behind

Then add one small action that would help you feel more in control this week

Examples:

  • organizing missing work

  • reviewing notes

  • emailing a teacher

  • studying briefly each day

  • starting assignments earlier

  • checking grades consistently

Optional prompt: “One sign I’m starting to fall behind is ______.”
