Step 6

Understanding What Rigor Really Means

As sophomore year continues, you will probably hear more about "challenging yourself" academically. This is known as rigor.

That does not mean exhausting yourself just to prove you can handle pressure.

A healthy challenge helps you grow without making your life feel unmanageable all the time.

Core Idea

Challenge should build growth, not constant overload.

Your One Action

Start your Challenge Map.

Choose one class that feels demanding this year. Then write:

  • what specifically makes it difficult

  • one thing that helps you manage it more effectively

Possible categories:

  • pacing

  • workload

  • testing

  • participation

  • reading volume

  • organization

  • focus

  • confidence

  • time management

Optional prompt: “This class becomes more manageable when I ______.”
