Choosing One Story to Explore
When students start thinking about essay topics, they often keep searching for a better story instead of working with the stories they already have.
Waiting for the perfect topic can keep you stuck.
Most strong essays begin because someone chose one experience and started exploring it.
Core Idea
A good essay usually starts with one real experience.
Your One Action
Open your Essay Fragments File.
Look at the experiences you listed in the previous step. Choose one experience you want to explore further.
Then complete: “The experience I want to explore more is ______.”
Next, write 2–3 sentences answering:
What happened?
Why does it still stand out to me?
Do not worry about structure, grammar, or whether this will become your final essay topic.
Optional prompt: “The part of this experience I keep thinking about is ______.”
