Understanding Rising Expectations

By junior year, teachers usually expect students to manage more on their own. 


There may be less reminding, less structure, and less step-by-step guidance. 


That shift catches a lot of students off guard at first. 


Working harder is not always the answer. Adjusting earlier usually matters more.

As expectations rise, self-management starts mattering more.

Choose two classes. For each one, write:


  • something requiring more effort or

  • something requiring more independence


Examples:

  • managing deadlines

  • reading consistently

  • studying earlier

  • speaking up more

  • organizing materials

  • keeping up without reminders


Then complete: “The skill this class is really asking from me is ______.”
