Step 24

Paying Attention to College Fit

Students often talk about colleges as if there is one universal definition of a "good" school.

But a place that works really well for one student may feel completely wrong for another.

Fit matters more than people admit.

A college can look impressive on paper and still not match the way you learn, live, or function best.

Core Idea

Fit matters more than prestige alone.

Your One Action

Start your Environment Fit Notes.

Compare two different college environments.

Examples:

  • large vs. small schools

  • city vs. suburban campuses

  • highly structured vs. flexible environments

Then write:

  • which environment feels more comfortable to you

  • one reason why

Then complete: “I think I function best in environments that ______.”
