Step 5

Responding Early When Something Starts Slipping

Most academic problems do not become stressful overnight.

They often build slowly while people hope things will somehow reset on their own.

A low grade, missing assignments, exhaustion, poor sleep, avoiding a class - none of those automatically mean you are failing.

But ignoring them for too long tends to make recovery harder.

Core Idea

Respond early. It gives you more options.

Your One Action

Start your Early Reset Signals list.

Identify one thing that feels slightly off right now:

  • a class

  • your energy

  • your focus

  • your sleep

  • your schedule

  • a responsibility

Then write one realistic step you could take this week.

Examples:

  • email a teacher

  • review notes briefly

  • sleep earlier twice

  • reduce distractions

  • start one assignment sooner

  • organize missing work

Then add: “One early warning sign I’m noticing is ______.”
