Step 14

Understanding the Difference Between Showing Up and Contributing

Two students can attend the same activity every week and have completely different impacts.

One is technically present.

The other contributes.

Contribution is not always loud or visible.

A reliable person who follows through consistently often matters more to a group than someone trying to stand out constantly.

Core Idea

Real involvement comes from contribution, not just attendance.

Your One Action

Start your Contribution Tracker.

Choose one activity you are involved in. Then write:

  • one thing you already do that helps the group

  • one small way you could contribute more intentionally this week

Examples:

  • being prepared

  • helping newer members

  • organizing tasks

  • encouraging others

  • communicating clearly

  • following through consistently

  • staying dependable

Optional prompt: “A contribution I probably underestimate is ______.”
