Step 16

Paying Attention to What Affects Your Energy

Some situations naturally increase your energy, focus, or motivation.  Others drain it almost immediately.

Freshman year is a good time to start noticing those differences instead of ignoring them or judging yourself for them.

Core Idea

Your energy patterns reveal a lot about what environments fit you.

Your One Action

Start your Energy Map

Make two quick lists:

Gives Me Energy

Examples:

  • certain people

  • movement

  • humor

  • calm environments

  • competition

  • creative work

  • independence

  • being useful

Drains My Energy

Examples:

  • loud environments

  • constant pressure

  • unclear expectations

  • large groups

  • too much structure

  • social tension

  • boredom

Then add: “One thing these situations seem to have in common is ______.”
