Step 5
Paying Attention to How You Are Responding
By now, you’ve probably already started developing patterns in how you respond to high school:
how you react when confused
how you handle pressure
whether you ask questions
how you manage time
what you avoid
what helps you stay steady
A lot of students do not notice these patterns until much later. Learning to notice them earlier can make high school easier to navigate.
Core Idea
Your response patterns matter more long-term than any one difficult moment. Understanding your patterns will make your responses feel more focused and intentional.
Your One Action
Create a How I Respond Profile.
You will keep updating throughout high school. Complete all or any of these:
“When school feels stressful, I usually ______.”
“One thing that tends to help me is ______.”
“One thing that usually makes things worse is ______.”
“I tend to avoid ______ when I’m overwhelmed.”
Keep adding to this gradually. Try not to judge yourself. The goal is to become easier for yourself to understand.
A lot of students spend years repeating patterns they never fully notice.
